The Rockford Methodist Church was built in 1914. A lot was obtained from Dr. Daniel Holcomb and men from the community donated logs, lumber, and labor. The women served lunches at the building site during construction. The Women's Society purchased the pews from the old Centenary Methodist Church on Liberty Street in Winston-Salem. Grant-Burrus Hotel ca. 1796 - Originally built by Reuben Grant as a tavern. It was added onto by John G. Burrus and served as the Grant-Burrus Hotel between 1890 and 1925. It was destroyed by fire in 1974. The site was deeded to the Society in 1988 by the Woodrow Burrus family. Read More

Mark York Tavern ca. 1830 - Mark York acquired a considerable amount of land around Rockford in the 1830's. It is believed he added to an earlier building which then became the Mark York Tavern, a boarding place and social center for visiting travelers, law students and guests. Read More

Rockford Post Office - After becoming postmaster in 1899, W. Y. Davenport built this building to serve as the post office from 1899 - 1914. Following his years as postmaster Mr. Davenport taught in Surry County. The office later became a cobbler's shop and then a residence. Read More
